Chrome ore

Mining of chromite is carried out by open-pit and underground mining. Whereas open-pit mining is generally applied to podiform deposits, underground mining is applied to stratiform deposits.

Chrome ore is the common name for the mineral chromite, which is described in the technical literature as an iron chromium oxide.

The most important applications of chromium ores are in the manufacture of stainless steel, gray cast iron, iron-free high-temperature alloys, and chromium plating for surface protection.
